United Way of Racine County

Journal Entry: Jeff Reidenbach, Facilities Manager

I chose United Way because of all the different organizations that they are able to represent. I have donated to United way for over thirty years, and in that time we have helped thousands of people, to do everything from learning to read to financial stability.

Bristol Strivers 4-h Club

Journal Entry By: Jessie Tonyan

I chose to give my #Gift2Giving to the Bristol Strivers 4-H Club. 4-H is, and has been, a huge part in my life. It teaches our youth many different life skills and lets them meet people from all walks of life. They get another opportunity to meet new friends that they may have for the rest of their lives.

Eco Justice Center

Journal Entry By: Melissa Gramza, Loan Specialist

When I was given the opportunity to make a donation from CSB, I knew I wanted to choose the Eco-Justice Center. They have many programs that benefit the community of Racine, for example their Eating Healthy and Farm Corps program. The Eco-Justice Center started their Farm Corps program when they recognized that eight percent of Racine County is a food desert, meaning that many residents do not have access to affordable fresh food. With this program, residents have this opportunity to have healthy, fresh food. Thank you to Eco-Justice for making a difference in our community!

Woof Gang Rescue

Journal Entry By: Kris Mertins, Enterprise Risk Management Officer

Additional Contributing Employee(s): Michael Castagnino, CSB Business Banking Loan Coordinator; Kris Mertins, CSB Enterprise Risk Management Officer; Reagan McKeown, Universal Banker, Denise Engelhardt, IT Specialist; Janet Vandaalwyk, Investment Assistant; Jody Vollmer, CSB Retail Manager; Courtney Christiansen, CSB Credit Analyst

A little over three years ago, a mutual friend referred me to your organization when my kids and I decided we wanted to get a puppy.  I knew that I didn’t want to buy from a pet store or a breeder.  She directed me to your website so that I could learn more about what Woof Gang does.  I saw how you literally save the lives of animals from across the country through your network of volunteers and loving foster families.  It struck my heart and I decided I wanted to save a dog’s life too, so we adopted Watson (Lee).

I still follow Woof Gang on social media and continue to be impressed by the selflessness and dedication of Jodie and her staff.  Their service doesn’t stop after an adoption.  I’ve reached out several times with questions and for help and they continue to provide support.  Each and every animal continues to be a part of the Woof Gang family (alumni), even long after adoption. The folks at Woof Gang Rescue were very grateful, to say the least, and were immediately able to put the funds to good use by purchasing two MUCH-NEEDED indestructible kennels.  They use these for the dogs that can, and have, destroyed the normal kennels.

Family Service of Racine

Journal Entry By: Steve Donovan, SVP & Market President

I decided to support Family Service of Racine (FSR) with my Gift2Giving award because of the amazing work they do for Racine County.  Access to quality mental health counseling in the area is very difficult and FSR has been providing this for over 100 years.  FSR serves all individuals and families but works with a significant number of individuals and families that are financial challenged.  The gift will go a long way to providing a baby changing table that is very much needed and I know will be greatly appreciated by all.

Rails to Trails - Route of the Badger

Journal Entry By: Shelly Petrick, Universal Banker

Additional Contributing Employee(s): Laura Huston, Universal Banker; Jennifer Braun, Harvest Club Director; Kellen Cayemberg, Universal Banker; Brynn Nielsen, Universal Banker; Dave Danner, Loan Specialist

Three years ago I participated in Leadership Union Grove(LUG). As a class, we had to pick a project that would impact our community. We chose to create Union Grove Rails to Trails which focused on raising awareness and gaining support to connect the heart of Racine County through Rails to Trails. LUG ended after 9 months, but I was hooked on the project. Now, I want to see it happen, and Larissa Gallagher and I have remained actively involved.

The Rails to Trails Conservancy Inc. is working on a project called "Route of the Badger", which would fill in the missing links to create a regional trail system of over 500 miles. The 11 miles that we have been focusing on in Racine County is one small chunk of that trail network. The Conservancy has been a great asset in helping us reach the goal of having a recreational trail on the abandoned corridor.

For this special donation CSB produced a podcast to better tell the 3 year journey and progress of the Union Grove Rails to Trails Project. CSB Market President, Dave Moyer, sat down with Racine County Executive, Jonathan Delagrave; Route of the Badger Program Manager, Willie Karidis; and CSB Universal Banker/Rails to Trails Advocate, Shelly Petrick to learn more about this very special community donation.

Transitional Living Center - TLC

Journal Entry By: Marilyn Sorensen, AVP Loan Document Manager

Additional Contributing Employee(s): Sarah Povkovich, Document Imaging Specialist; Deb Lois, Document Imaging Specialist; Lisa Galvan, Document Imaging Specialist; Terri Lott, Mortgage Loan Specialist; Miguel Escobedo, Mortgage Loan Specialist; Shakil Haider, VP Mortgage Operations Manager; Carol Klimke, Special Operations Officer; Sandy Lompa, Business Banking Loan Coordinator; Shanandoor Kanter, Business Banking Loan Coordinator; Susan Bork, Loan Specialist; Jackie Kolbeck, Business Banking Loan Coordinator Supervisor

When I was given the challenge, I knew immediately where I would donate my Christmas gift from CSB. What I did not know is how many others would join me in my giving to Transitional Living Center in Burlington.

Our gift will make a difference in many lives sheltered at TLC during the holiday season. TLC is the only homeless shelter in Western Racine County. It provides families and individuals a place to call home. When clients are housed at the shelter they are given support for legal needs, drug assistance, financial planning, mental illness, domestic abuse and many other services to help them transition back to independent living.

Transitional Living Center was founded in 1993 and is a nonprofit organization and is responsible for their own funding. Homelessness is a very complex issue and happens for many reasons. It is important to continue to educate the community about the needs of the organization as well as the changing needs of the clients it serves.

It is with great joy and thanksgiving that we are able to make this donation to TLC because of the giving of CSB and its commitment to the communities we serve.

Women & Children's Horizons

Picture
Journal Contributions By: Jayne Ojala, Retail Manager; Jeanne Vanderwerff, Universal Banker; Kelly Huston, Market President;  Robert Pieroni; VP & Business Banker; Savanah Bawden, Universal Banker; Cheryl Vanderwerff, Universal Banker

Providing Support, Shelter, Education, Training and Healing...
When #Gift2Giving donation campaign came out a few of our team members at the Paddock Lake location (Jeanne Vanderwerff, Cheryl Vanderwerff, Kelly Huston, Robert Pieroni, Savanah Bawden, and myself) thought about who we wanted to give our donation to. We had many choices to choose from but one stuck out above the rest. CSB VP and Business Banker, Robert Pieroni had told us about the Women and Children’s Horizons and how they advocate for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence/abuse. It was sad how this kind of abuse had touched each and every one of us through friends, family, or acquaintances.

The mission of Women and Children’s Horizon is to provide support, shelter, education, training, and healing services to victims of sexual and domestic abuse, their families and the community. They have a several locations between the City of Kenosha and Western Kenosha County. Our focus was to help the Western Kenosha County location because they are in our community supporting our families, friends and customers. The Women and Children’s Horizons has been around since 1976 and has helped so many women, children, and families. Thank you so much for being a part of our communities and helping so many in need. #Gift2Giving

“I was introduced to Women and Children’s Horizons in 2005, I was amazed to learn all of the programs and services the organization offers. At that time, I wanted to do more for the organization, so I joined their Finance Committee and eventually became a Board Member. It’s amazing how many lives WCH touches each and every day. As a county resident, I am thrilled to have them in Western Kenosha County serving our community. I couldn’t think of a better organization to give my gift to!” Robert Pieroni (CSB-VP/Business Banking Officer)

“I’ve known people in abusive relationships. It not only affects them but everyone close to them. It is a horrible situation no one should be in, and so I’m very happy to be donating to Women and Children’s Horizon.” Cheryl Vanderwerff (CSB-Universal Banker II)
“Domestic abuse can affect anyone. Women and Children’s Horizons is an excellent resource in our community. Therefore, I chose to donate to them.” Jeanne Vanderwerff (CSB-Universal Banker III)

“The assistance that Women and Children’s Horizons offers to individuals at their most critical times is truly incredible. This is one of many reasons I chose to donate to them.” Kelly Huston (CSB- Market President)

“I chose to join my coworkers in donating to Women and Children’s Horizons because the goal of that organization hits close to home. I’ve had both family and friends that relied on initiatives like this year after year, so being able to help fund it, even if only a tiny amount, makes me feel like I’ve given back to those I love.” Savanah Bawden (CSB-Universal Banker II)

“I had a friend that used a shelter/program like this several years ago. I noticed how this had helped her both financially and mentally. When Robert had mentioned the Women and Children’s Horizons and what they had to offer I knew I had to give my donation to them. Thank you for being a part of our community!” Jayne Ojala (CSB-Retail Manager)

Anchor covenant Church Food Pantry

Journal Entry By: Sherri Gorecki, Universal Banker & MyLIFE Coordinator

Additional Contributing Employee(s): Mike Fohey, CSB Mortgage Center Manager

Take what you need, leave what you can...
Mike Fohey and I went in together to give our #GIFT2GIVING donation to Anchor Covenant Church's little food pantries. These little food pantries are currently located in three locations in Lake Geneva (one is in the CSB parking lot). They serve as a solution to an immediate need.

Many families live paycheck to paycheck and coming up short just before payday can be a real issue. The concept of the little food pantries is simple: Anyone may place and take items inside the pantry at any time. That's it... Take what you need, leave what you can. The pantry may be small, but it can make a big difference to a family in need.  The #GIFT2GIVING donation will make sure the pantries stay stocked through the holiday season.

United way of kenosha county

Journal Entry By: Molly Krause, Cash Management Specialist

Readers are Leaders
When given the opportunity to pass along a donation from CSB, I immediately knew where I would give the funds: The United Way of Kenosha County. This past year I learned of their “Readers are Leaders” program and was immediately affected. Having children of my own, I know how important reading is. It is critical for their academic success. Falling behind at a young age marks a student as “below average” which affects their future grades, courses and confidence.

The “Readers are Leaders” program pairs young students who need additional assistance, with a consistent tutor. This extra attention to reading is helping students stay on course with their peers and helping them gain confidence in the classroom. By helping our youth, we are helping our future leaders. Thank you United Way of Kenosha County for developing and supporting the “Readers are Leaders” program!

Norway Lutheran Church

Journal Entry By: Pam Hegemann, HR Specialist

Norway Lutheran Church Makes a Difference...
My donation to Norway Lutheran Church (NLC) was done out of the love I have for the NLC family and in recognition for the outreach NLC does for the communities that they serve.  Whether it’s through worship services, Pastoral care, Helping Hands food pantry or the many other outreach efforts, NLC makes a difference in the lives of so many.  I wanted them to be recognized for the hard work they do and that is why I have chose them as my #Gift2Giving Donation! Thank you Norway Lutheran Church!

American Legion Bixby Hansen Post 171

Journal Entry By: Becky McClelland, Business Banker
Additional Contributing Employee(s): Katie Stolp, Retail Operations Director; Community State Bank

Land of the Free, Because of the Brave...
When the staff at CSB were told about the #Gift2Giving Campaign, I immediately knew where I wanted my donation to go. For a majority of my life, I’ve been surrounded by individuals who have dedicates so much… not just for me, but for our entire country. While I don’t understand the sacrifice many of our armed forces and veterans have endured on a personal level, I am able to understand it through the eyes of my own brother who has been serving in the US Navy for almost 16 years.

I have always looked up to him, and he makes me proud of everything he has done and continues to do. This is why I have chosen my donation to help the true heroes of America by donating to American Legion Bixby Hansen Post 171. I’ve been to many events at this local post and my favorite by far is the annual Veterans Day Luncheon. At this year’s luncheon I was honored to present my donation in front of so many local veterans who have made many sacrifices for the USA. To be surrounded by so many great people who have done so much for our country is a great honor, and I enjoyed spending time talking with them and personally thanking them for their service.  I know I will never be able to fully pay back or completely express my gratitude towards those who serve, but I’m happy to make a difference where I can.

Thank you American Legion!
